Tea Party leader and potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) spoke with Tony Perkins, president of the anti-gay hate group the Family Research Council (FRC), about the “supernatural ability” she needs to oppose government spending. Before touting the benefits of a government shutdown, however, Bachmann took solidify her partnership with the FRC:
]
PERKINS: Just with your time here in Congress, you’ve become kind of a poster child for American taking government back as you’re finding support --
BACHMANN: Well together with the Family Research Council.
PERKINS: Well, but you --
BACHMANN: Working hand-in-hand.
PERKINS: You’ve been such a great spokesman for that, and unwavering in your commitment so I just want to thank you for being unyielding –
BACHMANN: Thank you. Well I’m one among many.
PERKINS: -- in a city that tends to chew up and eat up conservatives.
Bachmann concluded the interview by thanking Perkins for the “great work” the FRC was doing. Included in that “great work”:
- Mocking transgender people who want protection from discrimination
- Criticizing the Golden Globes for promoting tolerance towards LGBT youth
- Painting gay and lesbian troops as sexual predators in order to oppose open service
- Lying about employment protections for LGBT Americans
