WND Columnist: "Homosexual Lobby" Trying "To Turn Dr. King Into A Queen"

August 14, 2013 10:50 am ET by Luke Brinker

Anti-gay activist Ken Hutcherson blasted Washington, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray for disinviting "ex-gay" gospel singer Donnie McClurkin from an August 17 concert in Washington commemorating the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s March on Washington. Gay rights supporters, whose pressure led Gray to ask McClurkin not to perform at the concert, are trying "to turn Dr. King into a queen," Hutcherson wrote.

In an August 13 column for WND, Hutcherson depicted McClurkin as the victim of a vicious "homosexual lobby." Hutcherson also attempted to draw a wedge between the LGBT and African American communities:

Why would Mayor Gray ban a black gospel singer who has been honored with the NAACP Image Award, two BET awards and three Grammys?

Because McClurkin is a former practicing homosexual who now lives as a straight man before God.

You see, in the politically correct times in which we live, sexual orientation trumps everything.

My fellow brothers and sisters with darker pigmentation, please hear me carefully. We are no longer a minority. The liberals have no use for us because they know most of us will pull the electoral lever for them every time. We are taken for granted. Unless you're living a homosexual lifestyle yourself, you aren't important anymore. Mayor Gray's decision to ban a black gospel singer proves that civil rights have turned uncivilized.  Let's be honest: If it were up to Mayor Gray, Dr. King wouldn't even be invited to this event.

Is this the new face of the black community? Is gray the new black?

Look, maybe Mayor Gray is senile and his memory has faded in the past 50 years. Maybe he's had a lot on his mind because he's under investigation for a campaign finance scandal. Heck, maybe the mayor is on the down-low himself. Or maybe the ban on McClurkin is simpler than all of those things: Maybe Mayor Gray is too spineless to stand up to a homosexual lobby that limits free speech, bullies straights and tries everything it can to turn Dr. King into a queen. [emphasis added]

Unsurprisingly, Hutcherson failed to note recent polling indicating that a majority of African Americans now support marriage equality.

Hutcherson's column also omitted McClurkin's history of inflammatory anti-gay rhetoric. He has described homosexuality as a "curse," referred to gays as "vampires," and derided openly gay adolescents as "broken and feminine."

Hutcherson himself has amassed quite the record of anti-gay speech and activism. Besides leading political crusades against marriage equality, Hutcherson has worked with anti-gay hate groups like Americans For Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) and the Family Research Council (FRC), peddled the falsehood that homosexuality is a choice, and organized campaigns against hate crime and non-discrimination laws. He has also predicted that marriage equality will bring us closer to the day when humans start marrying horses.
