NOM: Boycott Any Business That Supports "The Homosexual Lifestyle In General"

September 17, 2013 3:42 pm ET by Luke Brinker

The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) urged its supporters to dump LGBT-friendly brands, targeting any business that has promoted marriage equality or "the homosexual lifestyle in general."

A September 16 post on NOM Blog stated that opponents of equality opponents must "vote with [their] wallets" and punish LGBT-inclusive businesses:

Did you know that Starbucks was recently reported to be perceived as the most LGBT-friendly brand in the U.S.? JCPenney, Target, Apple and Amazon round out the top five.

If you've been following the national marriage battle over the past 18 months this should come as no surprise. Starbucks has said that gay 'marriage' is one of its corporate values. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who recently purchased the Washington Post, gave hundreds of thousands of dollars of his own money to redefine marriage in Washington State. Target and JC Penny both support gay 'marriage' and the homosexual lifestyle in general, as does Apple.

We only vote at a ballot box once a year at most. But we vote with our wallets every day. That's why NOM maintains its Corporate Fairness Project - which includes the Dump Starbucks, Dump General Mills, and Thank Chick-fil-A initiatives - to inform you of what companies are taking active stands in the marriage battle, and where your money is best spent in defense of this sacred institution.

Yes, NOM is targeting companies that have shown support for general gayness.

Besides standing by spokeswoman Ellen DeGeneres in the face of homophobic howls of protest, JC Penney has also committed the unforgiveable sin of depicting families headed by same-sex parents as healthy and happy. In 2012, the company ran ads featuring families with two moms for Mother's Day and two dads for Father's Day.

NOM's call for a broad boycott of any businesses that have indicated their support for "the homosexual lifestyle" is yet another signal that the organization continues to shift away from its purported focus on the marriage debate.
